The Word (Jer. 10:1; Acts 6:4)

• the faithful Word
Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers. Titus 1:9

• the good Word
And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come. Heb. 6:5

• the engrafted Word
Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. Jas. 1:21

• the sure Word
We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts. 2 Pet. 1:19

The Word of— referring to the Author of the Bible

• the LORD (239 times in KJV)
After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward. Gen. 15:1 and 238 other times.

• the Lord (16 times KJV)
But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you. 1 Pet. 1:25 and 15 other times.

• God (47 times in KJV)
Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. 1 Pet. 1:23 and 46 other times.

• our God
The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever. Isa. 40:8

• Christ
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. Col. 3:16

• His grace
Long time therefore abode they speaking boldly in the Lord, which gave testimony unto the word of his grace, and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands. Acts 14:3

• His power

The Word of— referring to the Nature of the Bible

• truth
And take not the word of truth utterly out of my mouth; for I have hoped in thy judgments. Ps. 119:43

By the word of truth, by the power of God, by the armour of righteousness on the right hand and on the left. 2 Cor. 6:7

In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise. Eph. 1:13

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Tim. 2:15

The Word of— referring to the Content of the Bible

• the kingdom
When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side. Matt. 13:19

• this salvation
Men and brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and whosoever among you feareth God, to you is the word of this salvation sent. Acts 13:26

• the gospel
And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe. Acts 15:7

• promise
For this is the word of promise, At this time will I come, and Sara shall have a son. Rom. 9:9

• the oath
For the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for evermore. Heb. 7:28

The Word of— referring to the Work of the Bible

• faith
But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach. Rom. 10:8

• reconciliation
To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. 2 Cor. 5:19

• life
Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain. Phil. 2:16

• exhortation
And I beseech you, brethren, suffer the word of exhortation: for I have written a letter unto you in few words. Heb. 13:22

• of truth

The Law (Josh. 1:7)

• of the LORD
To offer burnt offerings unto the LORD upon the altar of the burnt offering continually morning and evening, and to do according to all that is written in the law of the LORD, which he commanded Israel. 1 Chr. 16:40

But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. Ps. 1:2

• of the LORD of hosts

As Moses the servant of the LORD commanded the children of Israel, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses, an altar of whole stones, over which no man hath lift up any iron: and they offered thereon burnt offerings unto the LORD, and sacrificed peace offerings. And he wrote there upon the stones a copy of the law of Moses, which he wrote in the presence of the children of Israel. Josh. 8:31-32

• of Thy mouth
The law of thy mouth is better unto me than thousands of gold and silver. Ps. 119:72

• of truth
The law of truth was in his mouth, and iniquity was not found in his lips: he walked with me in peace and equity, and did turn many away from iniquity. Mal. 2:6

• of righteousness
But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness. Rom. 9:31

• of commandments
Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace. Eph. 2:15

• of the Jews
While he answered for himself, Neither against the law of the Jews, neither against the temple, nor yet against Caesar, have I offended any thing at all. Acts 25:8

• and the prophets
On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. Matt. 22:40

• book
Go, enquire of the LORD for me, and for them that are left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that is found: for great is the wrath of the LORD that is poured out upon us, because our fathers have not kept the word of the LORD, to do after all that is written in this book. 2 Chr. 34:21

Seek ye out of the book of the LORD, and read: no one of these shall fail, none shall want her mate: for my mouth it hath commanded, and his spirit it hath gathered them. Isa. 34:16

• fire
Wherefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, Because ye speak this word, behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them. Jer. 5:14

• lamp, light
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Ps. 119:105

For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life. Prov. 6:23

•meat, i.e. solid food
For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. Heb. 5:13-14

• milk
As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby. 1 Pet. 2:2

• seed
Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. Luke 8:11

Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. 1 Pet. 1:23

• silver
The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Ps. 12:6

• spirit and life
It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. John 6:63

• sword
And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Eph. 6:17

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Heb. 4:12

• water
That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word. Eph. 5:26

Descriptions of the Word of God

•commandments
That they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments. Ps. 78:7

• judgments
The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. Ps. 19:9

• law
The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. Ps. 19:7

Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law. Ps. 119:18

• oracles
Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God. Rom. 3:2

For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. Heb. 5:12

If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. 1 Pet. 4:11

• ordinances
And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless. Luke 1:6

• precepts
I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways. Ps. 119:15

• statutes
The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. Ps. 19:8

And the statutes, and the ordinances, and the law, and the commandment, which he wrote for you, ye shall observe to do for evermore; and ye shall not fear other gods. 2 Kings 17:37

• testimony, testimonies

The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. Ps. 19:7

Ye shall diligently keep the commandments of the LORD your God, and his testimonies, and his statutes, which he hath commanded thee. Deut. 6:17

• ways
And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. Isa. 2:3

Therefore thou shalt keep the commandments of the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to fear him. Deut. 8:6
